Chores Before You Head Out on Vacation - Plumbing Paramedics - Plumbers in Calgary

While spring cleaning is a great opportunity to sweep out all the nooks and crannies, some chores seem to get forgotten and left off the list. This is a problem because as many Calgarians plan their summer vacation, Southern Alberta is about to go into its rainy season. Homes are more vulnerable to flooding and other problems when no one is home to notice the issue.

Hot Water Tank Inspection.

When was the last time you had your hot water tank inspected and drained of sediment? As long as they have hot water, most Calgarians don’t give hot water tank maintenance much thought. But if you want your tank to reliably produce hot water for as long as possible, it’s important to maintain it and drain the sediment annually. Just before you head out on a vacation is the perfect time to do this. You can have your friendly, Calgary plumber clean away all the grit, rust, and other build up, and then just leave the tank empty until you get home. That way you can save money on utilities without worrying about bacteria buildup.

Clear Gutters.

Your eavestroughs are designed to move water, but they aren’t made to hold water for days or weeks. When leaves and other debris trap water, the metal begins to rust. Instead of an easy chore, the entire gutter will need to be replaced. In the meantime, water won’t be effectively moved away from your home and its foundation. Instead, water will overflow off the side of the gutter, deteriorating your house’s siding and potentially seeping through the foundation to flood the basement. Before you leave, make sure your home’s eavestroughs are cleared.

Furnace Inspection.

Your furnace worked hard for you all winter long, so now it’s time to give it the TLC it deserves. We don’t need to tell you that winters are long in Calgary, so it’s important that your furnace receives annual inspections and any necessary maintenance. This helps to keep it in tip-top shape for the next flash blizzard, but it also ensure that your warranty remains valid. Most warranties are voided if the furnace doesn’t receive a yearly tune-up, so it’s a good idea to see what rules your manufacturer has set.
