Step 1
Find the isolation valve and shut it off
The isolation valve could be located in the basement, crawl space, or utility room.
Step 2
Detach hoses from lawn faucet
Drain your hoses completely before storing them in a heated garage or basement.
Step 3
Open lawn faucet and drain
Now the inside isolation valve is off and the hose is detached – open the lawn faucet and let drain. Leave open until spring.
Step 4
Open the drain cap on the isolation valve
Open the drain cap on the valve body, allowing air to enter the pipe.
Step 5
Check for leakes
Water dripping, no matter how slowly, can freeze the pipe. If your faucet is still dripping, your isolation valve may need to be replaced.
