Most Calgarians choose a New Year’s resolution like eating better or getting in shape. These are fantastic goals, and we completely understand why Albertans would aspire towards feeling good and being healthier, but here’s another resolution we think every Calgarian can get behind: paying less on utilities.
A Tankless Water Heater can be a great way to reduce your energy bill. Small families, couples, and single Calgarians often see the largest reduction. These Albertans usually use less water, so their hot water tank is working hard to keep a tankful of largely unused water hot and ready. But if you have a large family that uses a lot of hot water, you’ll also see benefits from choosing a tankless water heater. For example, never running out of hot water after your three teens are finished showering. A tankless water heater saves you money by only heating water on demand when you need it. This means you’ll no longer waste any energy while on vacation, while reducing your average monthly bills. A tankless water heater also has significantly less risk of water damage and flooding if something goes wrong.
One thing to keep in mind is that a tankless water heater is more expensive than a new hot water tank. But at the moment, Alberta’s NDP government is offering rebates for up to $1000 to Albertans investing in a new tankless water heater, so now may be the time to act!
A New Toilet.
You might think that toilet technology can’t have changed much over the years, and you’re right—the general idea has definitely stayed the same. But today’s toilets are significantly more efficient than old toilets. Their shape is better suited to reducing clogs while wasting less water, and many come with low-flush options for liquid wastes and stronger-flush options for solids. Older toilets are also prone to leaks. To see if your toilet is wasting water, add some food colouring into the reservoir before you head to work. If the colour has made its way into the bowl by the time you come home, your toilet is leaking and costing you unnecessary money.
High Efficiency Furnaces are something we can recommend for anyone living in Alberta. Our harsh winters can get bitter cold, so having a furnace you can rely on is necessary for your safety. High efficiency furnaces keep your house warm and filter dust and allergens to keep air cleaner, and they use far less energy while they do it. Investing in a high efficiency furnace is a great choice for anyone. To get the most out of your new furnace, you may want to consider installing new, high efficiency windows, or adding additional insulation to your home. There are many Alberta NDP rebates available for Calgarians ready to invest in a more efficient home.
